Welcome to our Unplugged Village®

Since 2009, hundreds of thousands of Global (formerly National) Day of Unplugging participants have joined the movement to elevate human connection over digital engagement in their cities across the globe.

Santa Monica has taken a serious lead in terms of helping its community elevate a safer online experience and elevating in-person connections.

Several educational groups from Santa Monica have joined the movement including:

The Creative Learning Studio - unplugged activities for NDU 2021. Pacifica Christian School - had 2 tech-free days in January 2022

Santa Monica/Malibu Unified School District - what began with a few activities for Mental Health Awareness Month in 2023 expanded to include a coordinated effort from the District (Shuli Lotan -Mental Health Counseling Coordinator) partnered with the PTSA’s and ASB groups to make their impact for GDU. For 2024 they are planning:

  • District Resolution to encourage all schools in the district to adopt GDU

  • Parent/student Digital Wellness Presentation at SAMOHI

  • SAMOHI Swag Club is having a booth at the Wellness Resource Fair on Feb 28
