Welcome to our Unplugged Village®

Since 2009, hundreds of thousands of Global (formerly National) Day of Unplugging participants have joined the movement to elevate human connection over digital engagement in their cities across the globe.

The Roanoke County Public School District challenged all schools in the district to participate in GDU 2023. Superintendent Ken Nicely and the school board adopted a resolution in January and schools took up the challenge creating posters and activities to celebrate the day. The school with the highest percentage of pledges for their school level was awarded $500 to benefit student wellbeing. The following schools participated:

Elementary - Herman L. Horn 47%, Fort Lewis 43%, Back Creek 40%, Burlington, Green Valley, Oak Grove, Cundiff Elementary

Middle - Cave Spring Middle 54%, Glenvar Middle, Hidden Valley Middle

High - Glenvar High, and Hidden Valley High.
