Since 2009, hundreds of thousands of Global (formerly National) Day of Unplugging participants have joined the movement to elevate human connection over digital engagement in their cities across the globe.
Escambia High School has joined the movement for Global Day of Unplugging (GDU) 2025! Xandria and Payten, two Student Advisory Council members, identified technology as a problem and accepted Superintendent Keith Leonard’s challenge to get involved with GDU.
Together they have created a full day of activities for their school. Students will get a lanyard in the morning and acquire stars during each period where they keep their phones stashed. At the end of the day, those with a full lanyard get a prize. At lunch time there will be several activities including Bingo, Origami, recycled art and a spin the wheel game, where you can guess a historical fact about Escambia. Get it right and you get to dunk a teacher in a dunk bath. We can’t wait to hear how the fun day goes. Check out the video below of the girls!
