You have landed here because you are looking for a scavenger hunt. In partnership with Little Free Libraries and The Nocturnals, our NDU Ambassadors across North America are busy organizing clues and prizes for you to collect as you follow their trail. THE KICK OFF FOR THE HUNTS IS NOW OFFICIALLY OVER BUT MANY SITES WILL BE LEAVING THEIR CLUES UP UNTIL MARCH 12. EVEN IF THERE AREN’T EXTRA GOODIES ALONG THE WAY YOU CAN STILL GO ON THE ROUTE AND LOOK FOR THE LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES, CLUES AND OF COURSE BOOKS! CHECK THE LIST AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE TO SEE IF THERE IS A HUNT ROUTE NEAR YOU.
Little Free Libraries have been in existence since 2009 and there are over 100,000 registered LFL boxes in 50 states and 108 countries. They come in all shapes and sizes from mini houses to filing cabinets and up-cycled containers. LFLs are based on the “take a book, and leave a book” premise, making it the world’s largest book sharing program. You can check the map from the LFL website HERE to see if there are any in your neck of the woods (please note -only those LFLs listed below are taking part in the scavenger hunt but you can still go visit LFLs you find on the map at any time!).
We are partnering with Fabled Films and the Nocturnals series to add to the fun! Look for The Nocturnals characters (pictured below) throughout some of the scavenger hunts. Dawn the Fox, Tobin the Pangolin and Bismark the Sugar Glider may be hiding out!
How do these NDU scavenger hunts work? Look for a clue taped to the Little Free Library at each stop. It may be a word to unscramble or decode. You may even find other surprises along the way and of course, books! After completion, you will get access to a link to watch the author of The Nocturnals, Tracey Hecht’s storytime. SCAVENGER HUNTS FOR NDU MARCH 6, 2021 (See below for the physical address of the starting point for each hunt on March 4).
Check here for your city. Unless noted below, kick off for each hunt runs Saturday March 6 from 10 am - 1pm. Go to the address listed on the day of the kick off to get a map for the route and addresses of other stops. Many will keep the clues up until March 12 (although extra goodies may not be out). Have fun! Afterwards check back here to see if your answers match and to watch a storytime reading by Nocturnals author Tracey Hecht. We will draw two winners to receive a Nocturnals Book and Plush Activity Kit. Winners to be announced next week!
