Unplug with Nick Warner

1. How did you get involved in Unplugging?

After joining the team at ParentsWare, over a year ago, I became exposed to the concept of digital dieting and net nutrition. At ParentsWare we create apps that help parents instill these values in their children, by limiting Internet and App use. It’s amazing how over-consumption of devices use can completely change the development of a child. Last year, as a tech company, we unplugged and I’m excited to be a part of the movement this second time around.

2. What do you do when you unplug?

I unplug to rage! For me, that means anything from having a good time, to just taking the current moment to its full potential. When I am with my friends and family I do my best to give them my undivided attention and eliminate unwanted distractions. These moments are precious and texting, social media, and phone calls can derail life’s most important experiences.

3. What is the most overrated piece of modern technology?

The iWatch. I think the innovation of wearable technology is becoming bizarre and unnecessary. So happy Google Glass rests in peace.

4. Do you make unplugging a regular practice? If so, How?

When I come home from a day’s work I typically shut myself off from going online, checking emails, and stumbling through social media. The only times I am plugged in are when I’m blasting music at the gym or occasionally streaming awesome movies on Netflix.

5. Any plans for the next NDU?

I’m going to hit the beach all day and spend some quality time with family.

6. If you could unplug and spend with one person for an hour, who would it be and what would you do?

I would unplug and spend time with Peter Jackson. I’m a huge Tolkien fan and I would love to discuss Mr. Jackson’s ideation of the LOTR and the Hobbit. I would also try to convince him to pursue other adaptations of Tolkien’s novels.
